We found early on that many people were filling out volunteer applications on the fly, but didn't have the time or the ability to commit long term. Because we spend a lot of time educating volunteers and working to create a positive and synergistic environment where everyone is moving forward with the same goals and philosophies, we only allow new volunteers by "referral."
Each new volunteer coming into Operation Adopt has been sponsored by a current volunteer or staff member and that referring person's name goes onto the volunteer candidate's application.
After an application has been submitted, each candidate meets with the volunteer coordinator for an interview.
Through this process, a candidate is either approved or, in some cases, both the volunteer coordinator and the candidate come to the conclusion that Operation Adopt may not be the right fit for the volunteer.
(Minimum age for volunteering is 16.)
